Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima culture, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An endearing and voluminous, burnished redware double duck effigy vessel, the form comprised of co-joined ducks, each with plump bodies, applied eyes with incised outlines, slender necks and slightly protruding tails, with a single spout between them. United they stand - or rather swim - side by side, with their prominent "quacking" beaks leading the way and their diminutive tails following behind. A wonderful example with areas of manganese deposits to boot! Size: 7.125" L x 7.375" W x 5.125" H (18.1 cm x 18.7 cm x 13 cm)
