Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit and Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A set of 2 hand-built pottery figures from ancient West Mexico. The Nayarit figure sits on conical legs, holds a notched vessel atop one shoulder, and has an enormous forehead wrapped with a minimalist headband. The Colima warrior figure presents with delineated legs and arms, an incised tunic, and horns emanating from the forehead and necklace. Size of largest (Colima): 3.25" W x 6.625" H (8.3 cm x 16.8 cm); (Nayarit): 3.6" W x 5" H (9.1 cm x 12.7 cm)

  • Condition: Nayarit figure has loss to proper left leg and tip of nose. Colima figure has head reattached to neckline as well as repair and restoration to proper right arm. Both figures with encrustations, fading to pigment, and softening to finer details. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
