Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery whistling figure in the form of a shamanic man with a pronounced hunched back. The figure sits with a forward lead and places his hands atop his hips, wears a waist band with frontal tassels, and dons a bola-style necklace. Coffee-bean eyes, a perky nose, full lips, and ornamented ears compose the visage, and a horned helmet tops the head. A tone hole in the back of the head produces a lovely sound when played. Size: 1.9" W x 2.6" H (4.8 cm x 6.6 cm); 3.4" H (8.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
