Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery vessel in the form of a male figure seated nude atop a rounded but stable base. Enveloped with darkened brown slip, the figure holds both arms to his rotund abdomen while incised striations create dozens of slender scarification marks across his limbs. His head features coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a bulbous nose above parted lips, perforated ears, and a rectangular opening on top. Size: 5" W x 6.7" H (12.7 cm x 17 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
