Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima culture, Protoclassic period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A delightful pottery whistle in the form of dancing shaman in an amusing pose: with one hand on his hip and the other to his mouth as though he is playing a whistle of his own! Elaborately adorned, the ancient figure wears a thick belt, a pointed headdress, large, horn-shaped earrings, and a prominent necklace, all while carrying a sack on his back. Blow into the perforation atop his head to let out a high-pitched tune! A wonderfully meta example from ancient West Mexico! Size: 1.9" W x 3.3" H (4.8 cm x 8.4 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-S. and V. Friedman collection, New York City, New York, USA, acquired in the 1960s
