Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a hollow pottery vessel with a dark brown painted surface, incised scale patterns, and two snakes with detailed incised facial expressions facing inward. This vessel was placed into a shaft tomb; small pottery items that faced outward around the perimeter of graves inside of shaft tombs are a hallmark of the elusive early West Mexican cultures. It may have held a ceremonial or ritual offering. Size: 7.5" L x 5" H (19 cm x 12.7 cm).
