Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built buff terracotta flute with a twin-slit mouthpiece, two tone holes, and eight finger holes for manipulating the tone of notes produced. One side depicts a male figure with bent arms and stylized genitalia, while the verso exhibits a female form with open legs, perky breasts, and delineated female genitalia. Remnants of the instrument's original red, white, and orange pigmentation as well as bituminous paint are visible on both sides of this wonderful musical artifact! Comes with museum-quality display stand. Size: 7" H (17.8 cm); 7.75" H (19.7 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Repair to midsection with light resurfacing along break line. Age-commensurate surface wear, small chips around mouthpiece and each side, otherwise very good. Nice earthen and mineral deposits throughout with remnants of original pigmentation. Flute does not produce any sound.
