Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Coast Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. Most flutes we see are usually very plain and almost always repaired. This fine example is neither. Straight pottery flute in black burnished finish, head of a warrior adorns the area just below the mouth-piece. He wears a heavy textile helmet wrapped under his chin, adorned with added coffee bean eyes. Nice! 9-1/2"L (23.9 cm). Provenance: Ex-private Houston, TX collection acquired at auction or local gallery between 1982 and 1994. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108048
