Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built earthenware pallet or bed that stands on four legs and has two high hoops that are connected to one another as well as to the bed platform with more clay strips. Other examples have included a figure lying on the bed, perhaps to represent someone who was either sleeping or passed away. Indeed people in ancient west Mexico had an intimate relationship with death and the deceased, placing their deceased loved ones in shafts underneath their homes. A piece like this provides insight into an intriquing past world and inspires questions for further research. Size: 5.375" L x 3.125" W x 4.125" H (13.7 cm x 7.9 cm x 10.5 cm)
