Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A fine, hollow-built figural pottery vessel depicting a particularly corpulent male figure. The highly-burnished vessel has a round, balanced base with bent legs, and dark-red linear motifs cover the near-spherical body. Both outstretched arms flank the squat neck upon which a bloated visage presents coffee-bean-shaped eyes, a slender nose, puffy lips, and pointed ears. The flared spout doubles as the figure's headdress. Size: 8.875" W x 11.625" H (22.5 cm x 29.5 cm).
