Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Pihuamo, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A beautifully burnished and finely modeled standing terracotta female carrying a vessel upon her right shoulder, her form presenting a characteristically wide torso with subtle modulations and tastefully delineated breasts, an elongated head with a visage comprised of coffee bean shaped eyes, a pronounced, protruding straight nose, and slightly open mouth set askance making for a rather determined expression, and very large feet (an endearing feature that would inspire early 20th century Mexican modernists like Diego Rivera who collected Pre-Columbian art). She dons a headband with long ties hanging behind her head, a skirt covering her lower half, and at one time ear ornaments were probably suspended from her applied, pierced ears. Finish still shows impressive burnishing marks and generous areas of manganese deposits. Quite a beauty! Size: 6.75" W x 13.5" H (17.1 cm x 34.3 cm)
