Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Nayarit, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A gathering of hand-built pottery figures, head fragment, and a dog form whistle. The hollow head has a vent hole atop the headdress, and presents a stylized visage, linear scarification marks, and orange-red pigments creating banding and stippling. The dog whistle rests on stubby legs, the oblong body pierced with finger note holes, mouthpiece on the head, and the surface slipped in beige and red hues. The flattened gingerbread figures are both women effigies - the larger nude with delineated genitalia but adorned in a headdress, applied necklace, and arms bands. The other is partially clothed with a skirt, and her hands resting a protruding, possibly pregnant stomach. Size (whistle): 6" L x 2" W x 3" H (15.2 cm x 5.1 cm x 7.6 cm)
