Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima / Jalisco, ca. 200 BCE - 200 CE.  Quite large standing terracotta female figure supported on tripod leg.  Except for earrings, she is nude with female genitalia clearly described.  Entranced or praying with closed eyes and hands placed across her middle, she gazes skyward as her mane cascades down her back.  The figure is exceptionally large and must have required enormous skill to complete.  It is richly marked with manganese blooms and root marks.  A wonderful example!  Size:  19 1/2"T x 10 1/2"W. Provenance: Ex-private Atlanta, GA collection, acquired from Sothebys 1993. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #100601

  • Notes: 1.0
  • Condition: Great rootmarks and manganese.  A nearly invisible hairline surface fissure across chest and repair to head.  Nonetheless a fine representation.
