Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hollow-built pottery figural vessel that exhibits lustrous, highly burnished surfaces covered with attractive red-orange slip. The male warrior sits with a rigid posture upon a planar bottom with bent legs extended in front of a tall abdomen. His left arm is bent in front of his body with a clenched fist while he holds a triangular celt in his right hand. The enlarged head features a pair of coffee-bean-shaped eyes flanking a slender nose, perky ears, a smooth brow, and pursed lips just above a protruding chin strap that leads up to a peaked helmet. Atop the helmet is a slanted spout that leads to the interior cavity of the vessel. Size: 5.3" W x 7.5" H (13.5 cm x 19 cm)
