Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle culture, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A wonderful pottery figural jar of a female covered in graceful geometric linear, geometric, and scrolling motifs in hues of black and red on an orange ground. Her serene visage faces forward displaying closed eyes, a veristic nose, a slit-form mouth, and a pointed chin, all flanked by a pair of cupped ears. Sitting upon a rounded base, her rotund body features a raised navel and nipples as both arms grasp her bulging belly and a slender spout that doubles as a handle rises from the verso. Size: 8.7" L x 8.2" W x 8.8" H (22.1 cm x 20.8 cm x 22.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-private USA collection acquired before 2000. Complete provenance will be provided to winning bidder; all items from this collection have been appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014
