Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A finely-constructed pottery bottle with a spherical body and funnel-shaped neck standing atop a protruding ring base. The cream-hued ground of the exterior creates a soft, attractive ground atop which large swaths of black, red, and purple pigment are drawn in a myriad of spiraling and linear motifs. The intricate decorations accentuate the overall form of the vessel, and the use of purple pigment is indicative of the Conte/Macaracas style. Size: 4.625" W x 6.9" H (11.7 cm x 17.5 cm).

Provenance: private Colorado, USA collection; ex-private San Francisco, California, USA collection; ex-private M. Schmitt collection
