Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle culture, Macaracas type, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. A pottery bowl resting on short ring foot, the basin painted with the single image of a large fish in purple and red and outlined in black, on a creamy beige ground- the purple hue is indicative of the Macaracas style. The fish has an odd, blunt head and jagged teeth, perhaps a representation of a cichlid type of fish. Size: 7.5" Diameter x 2.5" H (19 cm x 6.4 cm)
