Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, Macaracas type, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of broad, spherical form depicting a stylized bird. The beige-hued exterior is decorated with elaborate black features, a red breast, and purple wing profiles while the neck of the vessel displays the minimalist avian visage. Size: 7.75" L x 7" W x 6" H (19.7 cm x 17.8 cm x 15.2 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 151. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
