Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, Macaracas type, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A spherical pottery pitcher of sizable form depicting a stylized feline creature, perhaps a jaguar. The rotund animal sits in an upright position, with polychrome limbs painted on its beige-hued body, a massive head with a mouth full of teeth, and a thick tail on the verso that doubles as the vessel's handle. Size: 8.32" Diameter x 8.5" H (21.1 cm x 21.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-private USA collection acquired before 2000. Complete provenance will be provided to winning bidder; all items from this collection have been appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014
