Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, Macaracas type, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A wonderful, hand-built pottery vessel of a rotund form featuring the abstract representation of a frog. The highly burnished jar features a wide foot, an oblong body with tapered front and back ends, and a flared rim on top. The cream-hued ground nicely accommodates the red-orange, black, and purple pigments that constitute the frogs face, tail, and anus, and a pair of petite eyes protrude outwards above the broad, tooth-lined mouth. Size: 5.875" W x 5.1" H (14.9 cm x 13 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

  • Condition: Minor nicks to rim, body, and foot, with very light fading to pigment, and encrustations within body, otherwise intact and very good. Wonderful preservation to pigment throughout, and nice root marks beneath foot. TL drill holes beneath base and beneath rim.
