Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle, Conti or Macaracas type, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A beautiful pottery bowl of deep, circular form that is supported by a broad, flared foot. The exterior walls of the beige-ground vessel are decorated with elaborate mouths and eyes, perhaps depicting an abstract fish or mammalian creature. Size: 8.2" L x 8" W x 5.25" H (20.8 cm x 20.3 cm x 13.3 cm)

Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou Collection, thence by descent. Acquired in the 1990s, collection # 364. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
