Description:

Ancient Greece, Classical Period, ca. 5th century CE. A gorgeous cast-bronze axe head with a crested back ridge, a circular socketing hole with a small protrusion on the ends of the upper and lower spines, a thick neck, and a flared blade edge. Axe heads of this style were typically created with a votive purpose, either to be left at the foot of an altar or to bury alongside a recently-deceased individual. Covered in lustrous layers of pale-green and russet patina, this is a fabulous example from ancient Greece! Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 4.125" L x 1.55" H (10.5 cm x 3.9 cm); 5" H (12.7 cm) on included custom stand.
