Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built flat terracotta figurine of a woman known as a 'pretty lady.' With hands resting on her stomach, the bare-chested woman gives the impression that she may be expecting. She is dressed in a long skirt with an incised wrap around her mid-section. A pair of hoop earrings adorning her ears are partially hidden behind the long strands of hair which hang from underneath a squared headdress. Piercing slit-form eyes are accented by thick brows, a virtuoso nose and deep mouth opening. Soft red and red-orange pigments cover the surface nicely. A wonderful example! Size: 1.6" L x 0.7" W x 4.2" H (4.1 cm x 1.8 cm x 10.7 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
