Description:

Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A lovely pair of ancient terracotta items from the Chupicuaro culture. A large hand-built and burnished brownware bowl has a rounded base and walls, collared shoulders with lightly-incised linear designs, deep interior cavity, a small upturned rim, and two small suspension loops. Also included is a small redware flute with cream-hued ring details, a flared mouthpiece, an open tone hole, and a burnished body; the flute is playable, producing a lovely sound. Size of bowl: 3.5" H (8.9 cm); Size of flute: 4.8" L (12.2 cm).

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields and Riverbend Gallery
