Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato River Valley, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. A handsome hand-built round-bottomed olla with a bulbous body, corsetted shoulder and a short neck that flares subtly toward the rim, the walls decorated with five geometric polygons nested within polygons, the innermost containing several dots, suggestive of seeds or eggs at the center, all painted in red and cream hues. Size: 5-1/2" x 6" at widest. Provenance: Ex-private Ketchum, ID collection acquired at major US or UK auction house or gallery between 1989 and 1999.
