Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 3rd - 2nd century BCE. While most Chupicuaro pottery flats are the brownware "pretty lady" variety, this example was painted with red and white details with incised geometric motifs on headband, large ear ornaments in a floral pattern, and elaborate double-strand pectoral with double pendant. Expressive face with applied eyes, coffee bean shaped mouth, and long, hook-like nose. Size: 6-1/4"H (15.9 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Houston, TX collection acquired at auction or local gallery between 1982 and 1994.
