Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guanajuato Valley in Central Mexico or West Mexico, Chupicuaro or Colima culture, ca. 500 BCE - 500 CE. This ceramic form was favored by both the Chupicuaro culture and the Colima. These peoples engaged in trade relations with one another and likely shared aesthetic visions beyond the expected economic activity. In this example we have a stunning piece of highly burnished blackware/greyware that boasts a distinct form with countless lobes or segments, each painstakingly modeled by the artisan, likely referencing the natural, phytomorphic contours of a fruit or gourd. ~6-1/2"H x 7-1/2"D at widest
