Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A handsome pottery bowl adorned with elaborate geometric decoration in hues of cream, black, and burnt sienna. Sitting upon a round yet stable base, the vessel displays an inward-curving rim and broad hip. The exterior walls present a central horizontal band of alternating squares and lightning strike motifs with a row of diamond shapes below and horizontal stripes throughout. Size: 8.6" Diameter x 4.4" H (21.8 cm x 11.2 cm)

  • Condition: Rounded base creates slight wobble but still able to stand independently of support. Professionally repaired with restoration and repainting over some break lines, but others visible in areas. Some abrasions to surface as shown, all commensurate with age. Otherwise, good presentation and nice preservation of pigments and decoration. Earthen encrustations in areas.
