Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Guanajuato Valley, Chupicuaro, ca. 500 BCE to 300 CE. A beautiful hand-built and highly-burnished pottery bowl with a round but stable base, tall walls, a deep basin, and a thick rim. Instead of a classically round shape, it has a square-sided profile. The interior and base are deep, earthy red, while the sides are decorated with large diamonds with stepped sides painted in creamy white; white and red stripes adorn the rim and bands of the same colors wrap around the sides. Size: 7" W x 3.75" H (17.8 cm x 9.5 cm)

Provenance: private Pasadena, California, USA collection acquired from local Los Angeles estate formed between 1970 and 2000
