Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Chorrera culture, ca. 500 BCE. A brown-ware whistling stirrup vessel depicting a seated lord or shaman, wearing a long-eared banded headdress, large earspools, beaded necklace and bracelets, his petite size perhaps indicating that he represents a dwarf believed to have magical powers in many pre-Columbian cultures and often associated with shamanism. This said, his diminutive scale may simply have been intended to work with the dimensions of the vessel. A wonderful example from the Chorrera. Size: 6.125" W x 7" H (15.6 cm x 17.8 cm)
