Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Chorrera culture, ca. 9th to 4th century BCE. A hand-built redware pottery vessel with a stable, near-flat base, a globular body with a zoomorphic head near the top, a tubular spout, and a slightly-flared rim. The highly-burnished bottle displays a playful simian head between body and neck, with cupped ears, a petite mouth, and enormous eyes embellished with sun-flare-style designs. The body and neck are covered in an incredibly-smooth luster in the right light, illuminating the russet-hued slip. Size: 5.625" W x 8" H (14.3 cm x 20.3 cm).
