Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Chorrera culture, ca. 1000 BCE; Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A splendid pair of pottery figures from pre-Columbian cultures: a Chorrera dog effigy vessel and a Jalisco seated hunchback figure. First, the charming canine stands at attention with alert ears perked up and a nubbin tail protruding from his posterior as red and beige slip adorn his body. An opening in the center of his back serves as the annular rim of the vessel. Alternatively, the hunchback figure sits with bent legs before him and both hands on his right knee as his skeletal spine curves outward creating a concave chest and projecting forth his dramatic countenance. Size of largest: 6.3" W x 10.1" H (16 cm x 25.7 cm)

Jalisco figure has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and sample taken from beneath right foot has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request. Samples taken from beneath left arm and back of head were found to be newer material, indicative of restoration.
