Ecuador, ca. 1000 to 800 BCE. Stunning bi-chrome terracotta spouted vessel from a culture that's existed at the same time - and probably traded with - the more famous Chavin culture of Peru. Delightful standing monkey showing total attitude with chest and lower jaw extended, hands on his waist, tail swept up to the back of his head. Much of the original paint remains. 8-3/4"H. Provenance: Ex-prominent Hollywood Emmy Winning Director's Collection, acquired at NYC auction. The starting price is the lowest price at which this item can sell.
