Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. An elegant and sizable flask, mold-formed from semi-translucent, pale blue-green glass with a slightly concave base, a globular, gently-tapering body, a rounded shoulder with a lightly indented neck base, a tubular neck, and a funnel rim with a rolled lip. Dozens of thin pattern-molded ribs spiral down the body, with several vertical ribs forming as a result of the mold lightly compressing the body during its forming. Beautiful silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence cover the body in layers of vibrant color. Size: 3.7" W x 6.125" H (9.4 cm x 15.6 cm).

For a stylistically-similar example of a lighter color, please see "Solid Liquid: Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Islamic Glass." Fortuna Fine Arts, Ltd., New York, 1999, p. 104, fig. 190.
