Description:

Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine pair of 18 karat gold earrings - hoop earrings adorned with a hemisphere as well as a petite sphere comprised of a series of filigreed bands surrounding the front section. While many ancient Roman jewelry designs resembled those of the Greeks and the Egyptians, the hemispheric motif was purely a Roman creation. In addition, the Romans invented the “hoop earring” which developed around 300 BCE. Yes even in antiquity, humans expressed their love, appreciation, and admiration with a shimmering bauble or two. So why not continue to embrace this longstanding tradition? Size: .875" L x .75" W (2.2 cm x 1.9 cm); Weight: 3.6 grams
