Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 325 BCE. This is a beautiful kylix in a style referred to as "Xenon ware." Stunning and one of the finest of the type we have ever seen, this drinking cup has two raised handles extending from near the rim and a pronounced foot. The black background has attained some iridescence from age. Decorated with repeating band of grape vines along inner rim, scrolls surrounding a lion raised upon its back paws, furry mane and fluffy tail. The exterior is elegantly embellished with repeating ivy leaves. Size: 9.25" W x 1.75" H (23.5 cm x 4.4 cm)
