Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Mixtec people, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. A finely detailed anthropomorphic figure with elaborate incised features over a tan-colored hard stone. Its visage is decorated with the two large ovoid eyes accented by brow lines that give this idol a humbled, hopeful expression. The nose is a protruding triangle which slightly hangs over a slit-form mouth opening. The figure is in a crouched, seated position with hands clasped across the midsection, perhaps in preparation for prayer or an offering. It is hard to find a Mixtec penate in such pristine condition, making this a rare find! Size: 1.25" W x 3" H (3.2 cm x 7.6 cm)
