Description:

Greek colonies, Italy, Apulia / Daunian, ca. 300 BCE. A richly painted and beautifully preserved example of Daunian pottery, which was influenced by the cultural commingling of the native Italians and colonist Greeks who settled in the area at this time. This is an olpe, with a rounded body and a round handle from the underside of the large, flaring rim, to the center of the shoulder. The broad rim was made to pour wine. Around the body are linear bands of black and red on a creamy slip. Size: 6.55" W x 4.9" H (16.6 cm x 12.4 cm)
