Description:

Roman Empire, Imperial Period, Mediterranean region, ca. 1st century CE. Made of cream-colored terracotta with a richly-colored red-slip covering, this vessel features a flat base with an incised ring around it as well as an illegible planta pedis (maker's mark) and three raised and equidistant abstract geometric "feet." Steep shoulders, a thin handle with a large pierced hole, two pierced side wings, a small neck channel slit, a large protruding wick spout, and a deeply-recessed tondo with a small fill hole complete the list of characteristics of this fantastic example of everyday Roman houseware. Size: 4.375" L x 3.6" W x 2" H (11.1 cm x 9.1 cm x 5.1 cm).

Provenance: private Schroeder collection, Boca Raton, Florida, USA, acquired before 1970
