Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Western Bolivia, Chiribaya or Tihuanaco (Tiwanaku), ca. 900 to 1200 CE. An attractive hand built clay pot, adorned with polychrome slip painted geometrics that suggest zoomorphic creatures in hues of red, cream, and black that cover the entire exterior surface. We attribute this piece to either the Chiribaya or Tihuanaco (also called Tiwanaku) culture. Artisans of both Andean cultures excelled in highly decorated pottery that is among the greatest achievements in Pre-Columbian art. Size: 5-1/2" x 4" (14 x 10.2 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Leonard Collection, Virginia, USA, acquired before 1979
