Description:

East Asia, China, Yuan Dynasty, ca. 1279 to 1368 CE; Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok or Sukhothai, ca. 13th to 15th century CE. A fabulous ensemble of 2 Chinese celadon glazed bowls and a Thai stoneware jar. The bowls both display wide rims and the basin of one has faint remains of the foliate motif that once graced the central tondo. The jarlet has a squat, rounded body with a steeply carinated shoulder. This jar is fascinating not only as an ancient artifact but also for the sea life that has accumulated on the interior and exterior. Attesting to the many years spent on the ocean floor is a shell from a mollusk trapped inside- the jar became a permanent home when it grew too large to pass through the mouth opening! Size (bowl): 6.25" Diameter x 2.75" H (15.9 cm x 7 cm)
