Description:

East Asia, China, Yuan Dynasty, 1279 to 1368 CE. A lovely standing female attendant - mold-made and covered with white slip, showing traces of red pigment on the body and black pigment on the coiffure, suggesting it was once painted. Extensive retinues of attendants and warriors, in addition to architectural models and household goods, have been excavated from ancient Chinese burial sites. This standing female attendant is notable for her elegant attire and quiet pose. She most likely was once part of a larger retinue of attendants buried in the tomb of an elite, high-ranking official. Her relative stillness is characteristic of attendant figures, as warriors generally present livelier poses and animated features. A beautiful female attendant from this era of Kublai Khan and Marco Polo! Size: 8.375" H (21.3 cm)
