Description:

East Asia, China, Republic Period, ca. 1912 to 1949 CE. A milky white jade cylinder carved in a perfect hollow cylindrical shape to wear as a ring. Jade has been highly prized by the Chinese throughout history, considered even more valuable than silver and gold. Attesting to this is the following statement made by the great philosopher Confucius, "Soft, smooth and glossy, it appeared to them like benevolence; fine, compact and strong - like intelligence" (ca. 551 to 479 BCE). Simple yet elegant! US ring size 9 to 10 Size: 1.25" in diameter x 1.125" H (3.2 cm x 2.9 cm)

Given the fact that this jade ring is white in color, it is carved from nephrite which chemically speaking is a calcium magnesium silicate. Colored jade occurs due to the presence of copper, iron, and chromium which imbue the stone with hues ranging from soft grey-greens to saturated yellows and even reds.
