Description:

East Asia, China, late Warring States period to early Western Han Dynasty, ca. 400 to 200 BCE. A lovely hand-built pottery jar presenting an apple-form body that narrows to a sloped shoulder, cylindrical neck, and flared rim, all sitting atop a flat, circular base. An intricately incised design of six to seven horizontal bands of parallel striations adorns the body of the ancient vessel, while softly carved rings decorate the top of the shoulder and neck, encircling the mouth of the ancient vessel. A pair of applied strips of clay sit opposite one another on the shoulder of the gorgeous jar, perhaps previously allowing for a better grip of the jar. Size: 7.25" W x 5" H (18.4 cm x 12.7 cm)

Provenance: private collection of the late Karming Wong, acquired from late 1970 to early 1980
