East Asia, China, Tang Dynasty, ca. 618 to 906 CE. A mold-formed pottery tomb votive effigy of a water buffalo or ox standing atop an integral base with delineated legs. The buffalo has a bulbous body, low relief horns, and protruding shoulder blades / hump that also might be a loaded pack. Remains of the sancai glaze in green and yellow hues tinted by copper and iron cover most of the surface of this charming burial offering. Size: 2.5" L x 1.25" W x 2" H (6.4 cm x 3.2 cm x 5.1 cm)
