Description:

East Asia, China, Tang Dynasty, ca. 618 to 906 CE. An elegant mold-made ceramic female court attendant, her hollow form standing upright on an integral pedestal. She wears flowing robes with incised lines as naturalistic creases and folds, and her hands are clasped together under billowing sleeves. Her rounded head is composed of plump features and round earrings crowned by a black coiffure bun. Remains of white, black, and red pigments are present across most of the surface, but worn in some areas, revealing the warm red terracotta below. Size: 5" L x 5" W x 15.25" H (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm x 38.7 cm)

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000
