East Asia, China, Tang Dynasty, ca. 618 to 906 CE. A cast leaded-bronze mirror of an elegant form with undulating peripheries, resembling a flower, and a central knob-like handle at the center. The verso of the mirror is adorned with an intricate relief of 2 long-necked birds, perhaps cranes or mythical phoenixes, beside a river with 2 vertical lines of Chinese script inscribed between them. Size: 5.1" in diameter (13 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, acquired 1980s to 2000s
