Description:

China, Tang Dynasty, 618 to 907 CE. This is a gorgeous bronze vase with an amazing bright turquoise patina. The body of the vase is perfectly apple-shaped, with a slightly flared foot; the spout is long, thin, and terminates in a flared rim that mirrors the shape, although not the size, of the foot. A bronze piece like this was most likely the property of a wealthy person and, if it enjoyed domestic use at all, likely ended its ancient career as a funerary objects, perhaps filled with libations such as wine or oil. See the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a nearly identical, but slightly smaller, example. Size: 5.2" W x 10.2" H (13.2 cm x 25.9 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Private Hong Kong collection
