East Asia, China, Sui Dynasty, ca. 581 to 618 CE. A squat terracotta "zhadou" vessel with a slight concave base, bulbous body, pinched neck, wide mouth, and a collared and flared rim. This piece is made from a heavy grey stoneware (high temperature fired ceramic) with a highly-reflective pale yellow glaze with light orange fritting veins caused during the firing process. Size: 4" W x 3.375" H (10.2 cm x 8.6 cm).
