Description:

East Asia, China, Song Dynasty, ca. 960 to 1279 CE. A lovely gathering of five ceramic dishes, each with a squat foot, wide walls, and a shallow basin covered in glaze of varying colors. Three of the bowls are covered in uniform layers of pale grey-green glaze, one with grey-white glaze with a reserve band around the middle, and one with matte brown glaze. Three of the five dishes bear faint Chinese characters on their undersides, though the script is difficult to read. Size of largest (grey-green): 6.5" W x 1.5" H (16.5 cm x 3.8 cm).

Provenance: ex-private Hawaii, USA collection, 1970s

  • Condition: All items have minor nicks to feet and rims, with fading to areas of original glaze pigmentation and Chinese characters, and light encrustations mostly along underside, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and nice craquelure to glaze throughout. Old inventory label beneath each foot.
